Rogers County, Oklahoma General Information

Rogers County was founded prior to Oklahoma statehood when the Arkansas Band of the Osage Nation settled in the Three Forks area (the junction of the Arkansas River, Grand River and Verdigris River) during the 1760s and established two villages called Pasuga and Pasona in what is now Rogers County.

Will Rogers, the American cowboy, vaudeville performer, humorist, social commentator and motion picture actor, was born on the Dog Iron Ranch in Indian Territory, near present-day Oologah. The house in which he was born was built in 1875 and was known as the "White House on the Verdigris River”.

Rogers County has consistently been ranked as the fastest growing population in the state. From 2000-2010 the population increased 23 percent, while the state increase was 8.7 percent. As of 2010, the population was 86,905.

Rogers County consists of a total area of 711 square miles – 675 square miles is land, and 36 square miles is water. The largest body of water in Rogers County is Lake Oologah. Local county government is headed by a three-member council of elected commissioners, a tax assessor, clerk, court clerk, treasurer, and sheriff. The county is divided into three districts, and the county seat of Rogers County is Claremore.

The majority of the southeastern quadrant of Rogers County has shown a 5% or more increase in population from the 2000 to the 2010 census. Rogers County, with a 2010 population of 86,905, had a 23 percent increase since 2000, according to Census Bureau figures. The proximity of Rogers County to job centers such as Tulsa and the Port of Catoosa as well as the affordable housing has likely driven much of the growth in the past decade. Also contributing to the exceptional growth is that part of Owasso, one of the state's fastest-growing cities, lies within Rogers County.

Rogers County is expected to continue to grow rapidly over the next five years as indicated by the map below. The majority of the county is projected to grow 5 percent or more over the next 5 years. These rates would exceed those seen in the past decade and continue to make Rogers County one of the fastest growing in the state.

The average household income in Rogers County in 2011 is $69,146, and the projected average household income for 2016 is $79,240. In 2011, 58.60% of the household had an income over $50,000 indicating a considerable amount of disposable income in the county.

The southern region of Rogers County is densely populated with college educated residents, especially in the regions surrounding Owasso and Claremore. The majority of the population in the Owasso, Catoosa and Claremore regions are engaged in white collar occupations including positions in Management, Business, Financial Operations, Professional, Sales and Office.
